As a Health Care Assistant, you will be expected to deliver personal care, domestic care, medication supports and activity-based assistance to the members attending holiday service in a way which enhances their independence, dignity, and self-esteem as members of the local community. Our guests who visit this unique holiday destination have physical and/or sensory disabilities and our Health Care Assistants ensure that they have a delightful, relaxing, and active stay in modern, fully accessible hotel facilities and during outings.

Your role as HCA will be based in Kilkenny. You may be required to work mornings, evenings, and nights on a rota basis or as discussed and agreed during the recruitment process. Working days are typically Monday – Friday.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

 

            Support individual members to maximise their potential using a person-centred approach.

            Assisting members in all aspects of personal care and daily living as identified by the members

            Supporting participation in social activities outside the home as identified by the members

            Supporting independent living skills training as identified by the members

            Completing as required the normal range of duties associated with the upkeep of a member's residence.

            Ensuring that your work and interaction with others is such that it promotes and enhances the independent living capacity of the members.

            Implementing the action planning and reporting systems within the parameters set by the Service Co-ordinator.

            Be available to work flexible hours, i.e. mornings, evenings, overnights.

            Actively ensure that standards and practices regarding health and safety are fully adhered to in all areas of the service.   Record and report any incidents/accidents to the Service Co-ordinator.

            To work in a confidential manner respecting people’s right to privacy and your role in their home.

            Carry out other duties and/or responsibilities which may be assigned to you from time to time.

            Ensure that your responsibilities to safeguard children and adults from abuse or harm is a core aspect of your role and that IWA’s Safeguarding Policies and Procedures are adhered to.

 

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Training, Experience and Qualifications

  A minimum of 5 completed modules and be working towards the major award of QQI level 5 in Health Care, Support or similar qualification is essential.

QQI Major Awards that are deemed relevant to IWA are:

            Community & Health Services (to include minor components Safety & Health at Work and Care Provision & Practice)

            Health Service Skills (to include minor components in Workplace Statutory Policies & Procedures and Care Skills and Care Support)

            Health Care Support (to include minor components Safety & Health at Work and Care Skills and Care Support)

 

Knowledge and Skills

Previous experience of working with people with disabilities is essential.

Understanding of the social model of disability and the concepts of person centred planning an advantage.

Understanding of independent living is desirable.

Full Drivers Licence required.

Salary for this position is from €15.37 up to €17.11 per hour DOE.
