A Clinical Nurse Manager is a Registered Nurse employed by the IWA to monitor the implementation of IWA policy and procedures in services where IWA Staff who are Registered Nurses and IWA non-nursing staff who are Personal assistants to provide support with clinical tasks in an IWA service or to an individual.
IWA defines Clinical Tasks as tasks traditionally carried out by registered nurses in a hospital setting but routinely carried out by family members in the community when an individual is discharged home.
Overall Purpose of Job
Manage and plan the implementation of individualised support plans and services for individuals with disabilities in their homes.
Provide Line Management support for IWA staff who are registered nurses.
Provide Line Management support for IWA non–nursing staff.
Facilitate individuals to maximize their independence through a person-centred service and ensure full and equal inclusion of people with physical disabilities.
Be responsible for the safe and effective delivery of nursing intervention for people availing of a service.
For the successful implementation of this role the Clinical Nurse Manager will need to establish and maintain good communication with individuals availing of a service, other staff members, other services in IWA and where appropriate external professionals. The role necessitates participating as a member of the Supported/Independent Living Team and the IWA Clinical Team in the south east. The role involves working closely with the individual availing of a service, their families, or advocates, IWA Clinical Team, other IWA staff and volunteers. The role necessitates linking with multidisciplinary teams (GP, Pharmacist, OT, SLT, Physiotherapy, other practitioners and HSE personnel).
Training, Experience and Qualifications
Professional Qualification in Nursing
Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland on the division of the register appropriate to the role in IWA for which you will be employed
Minimum of 5 years’ post registration clinical experience
Experience of delegating to and supervising student nurses, junior nursing staff and non-nursing staff is desirable
Experience of working with people with disabilities is desirable
Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team
Experience of working autonomously, exercising independent clinical judgment and discretion
Knowledge and Skills
Strong communication, creativity, problem solving and decision-making skills
Excellent negotiation and influencing skills
An awareness and understanding of the needs of people with physical, sensory and communication difficulties would be an advantage
The ability to work under own initiative and as part of a team
