Service Coordinator - School Leavers Service

The overall purpose of this role is to, manage and develop the School Leaver Service for people with physical and sensory disability in Dundalk and support the development of a range of new services in the County Louth area. Support the long-term integration of young adults with physical disability into all aspects of Irish society through the appropriate use of a person-centred approach. Key internal relationships include interaction with Service and Area Managers, Rehabilitative Training Coordinator & other Community Centre and ALS Coordinators, National Development Officers, local staff, members and volunteers. Externally a high level of promotional contact will need to be establish links with local authorities, schools, community groups and other relevant statutory or voluntary agencies.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Manage and develop the School Leaver Service in Dundalk in line with IWA’s service model.
Implement person-centered processes within the School Leaver Service.
Support Service Manager to further develop School Leaver outreach activities and hubs within the area.
Develop a range of new programmes and activities that support young adult members’ increased participation and independence in the community in line with HSE’s New Directions Interim Standards.
Manage and lead staff in a manner that facilitates team building and supports their professional development to meet the standards required by the Association.
Engage in assessing needs of new referrals to School Leaver Service in partnership with each person and their family or advocates.
Ensure services provided are in keeping with IWA Standards of Practice.
Develop and foster working relationships with both statutory and voluntary agencies.
Recruit and manage volunteers to assist with services, where appropriate.
Promote positive awareness of disability in the community.
Ensure that your responsibilities to safeguard children and adults from abuse or harm is a core aspect of your role and that IWA’s Safeguarding Policies and Procedures are adhered to.
Any other duties as assigned to you from time to time
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Training, Experience and Qualifications
A degree at QQI Level 8 or professional qualification in one of the following disciplines: Applied Social Studies/Registered Nurse/ Social Worker / Community Work, and/or General Management is essential
Previous experience of people management is essential, including previous experience of working within the disability sector or similar services
Knowledge and Skills
Computer literate including use of databases and Microsoft Office suite is essential
A full driving license and own car are essential
Strong communication, creativity, problem solving and decision-making skills
Excellent negotiation and influencing skills
Experience of working with people with disabilities or a marginalised group
