The overall purpose of the role is to plan, deliver and evaluate QQI (up to Level 3) and ASDAN accredited training workshops, and non-accredited training workshops for young adults with physical disabilities and/or acquired brain injury, within Irish Wheelchair Association’s Rehabilitative Training and School Leaver Service programme.

 

The Tutor will deliver training that will develop and improve the necessary life-skills needed for young people to progress towards increased personal effectiveness and independence, e.g. participating in their communities, moving onwards towards further educational opportunities, or improving job readiness. You will also work on a one-to-one basis with everyone, using a person-centred approach to goal setting and decision-making, to support and motivate each person to identify and follow through with their own goals and plans. You will support young adults (and staff members) to link with relevant external services and organisations, and to identify circles of support and resources. You will be required to undertake other duties as deemed necessary to the successful implementation of young adult services.

 

Liaison

Close liaison is required with the Rehabilitative Training (RT), School Leaver Service (SLS) Coordinators and CSD Service Manager, as well as with other staff working directly with young adults in Clontarf Services. You will develop links with community organisations, services and employers to provide a diverse range of community-based learning opportunities for Rehabilitative Training participants.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Plan, deliver and evaluate bespoke training sessions for people with physical disabilities as part of IWA’s Rehabilitative Training Programme and School Leaver Service, including training consistent with QQI (Up to Level 3)and ASDAN-accredited standards and informal training activities

Support the RT and SLS Coordinators in delivering person centred planning in line with the HSE’s National Framework for Person Centred Planning in Services for Persons with a Disabilities and New Directions Interim Standards

Hold monthly one-to-one personal goals meetings with all RT and School Leaver participants.

Facilitate participants to identify and make SMART plans towards their personal goals, including identifying circles of support and community resources.

Develop and maintain training materials and resources for use within various training modules and activities.

Maintain records and information in line with Quality Assurance standards and to prepare materials for internal and external audit and verification processes.

Supervise Programme Assistants in working on a one-to-one basis with students in both a group and individual capacity where appropriate.

Build young adults’ capacity for self-advocacy, independence and making informed choices about their futures.

Develop connections between young adults and external organisations and services who can support them to achieve their personal goals.

Identify opportunities for young adults to engage in meaningful social roles in their communities, including work experience and volunteering.

Document personal goals work in hard copy and/or online in line with IWA’s Single Operations Manual

Undertake training as directed by the Service Manager

Actively ensure that standards and practices regarding health and safety are fully adhered to in all activities, and in the community centre itself.

Carry out other duties and/or responsibilities which may be assigned to you from time to time.

 

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Training, Experience and Qualifications

 

Experience and Qualifications

Level 7 (or higher) qualification in a discipline such as Training & Education, Counselling/Guidance, Youth/ Community Work, Occupational Therapy, or similar social science related discipline is required.

Experience of training and facilitation in a community setting is essential.

Experience of one-to-one mentoring and working within a person-centred approach is essential.

Experience of working with people with physical disabilities is desirable.

Experience of supporting people to find volunteering/work experience would be desirable.

 

Knowledge and Skills

Excellent presentation and communication skills

Previous experience of developing and delivering accredited and non-accredited projects or programmes is essential

Ability to motivate, guide and encourage others through one-to-one facilitation

Ability to direct programme assistants to support students in engaging fully with various training activities

Ability to adapt generic learning outcomes in bespoke, practical training workshops and activities

Ability to develop and evaluate comprehensive programmes of training for ongoing use and to evaluate and update programmes

Experience of working with people with physical disabilities would be desirable

Knowledge of services, facilities and opportunities with the community for people with disabilities is advantageous

Knowledge of HSE’s New Directions Interim Standards and Person-Centred Planning Framework is an advantage

Excellent administration skills, organisation, and time management

Strong computer literacy including Microsoft Office suite
